\nIn a false Angle takes each hight;<\/em>
\nThese Tears which better measure all,<\/em>
\nLike wat’ry Lines and Plummets fall.<\/em><\/p>\n

Two Tears, which Sorrow long did weigh<\/em>
\nWithin the Scales of either Eye,<\/em>
\nAnd then paid out in equal Poise,<\/em>
\nAre the true price of all my Joyes.<\/em><\/p>\n

What in the World most fair appears,<\/em>
\nYea even Laughter, turns to Tears:<\/em>
\nAnd all the Jewels which we prize,<\/em>
\nMelt in these Pendants of the Eyes.<\/em><\/p>\n

I have through every Garden been,<\/em>
\nAmongst the Red,the White, the Green;<\/em>
\nAnd yet, from all the flow’rs I saw,<\/em>
\nNo Hony, but these Tears could draw.<\/em><\/p>\n

So the all-seeing Sun each day<\/em>
\nDistills the World with Chymick Ray;<\/em>
\nBut finds the Essence only Showers,<\/em>
\nWhich straight in pity back he powers.<\/em><\/p>\n

Yet happy they whom Grief doth bless,<\/em>

So Magdalen, in Tears more wise<\/em>
\nDissolv’d those captivating Eyes,<\/em>
\nWhose liquid Chains could flowing meet<\/em>
\nTo fetter her Redeemers feet.<\/em><\/p>\n

Not full sailes hasting loaden home,<\/em>
\nNor the chast Ladies pregnant Womb,<\/em>
\nNor Cynthia Teeming show’s so fair,<\/em>
\nAs two Eyes swoln with weeping are.<\/em><\/p>\n

The sparkling Glance that shoots Desire,<\/em>
\nDrench’d in these Waves, does lose it fire.<\/em>
\nYea oft the Thund’rer pitty takes<\/em>
\nAnd here the hissing Lightning slakes<\/em><\/p>\n

The Incense was to Heaven dear,<\/em>
\nNot as a Perfume, but a Tear.<\/em>
\nAnd Stars shew lovely in the Night,<\/em>
\nBut as they seem the Tears of Light.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ope then mine Eyes your double Sluice,<\/em>
\nAnd practise so your noblest Use.<\/em>
\nFor others too can see, or sleep;<\/em>
\nBut only humane Eyes can weep.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now like two Clouds dissolving, drop,<\/em>
\nAnd at each Tear in distance stop:<\/em>
\nNow like two Fountains trickle down:<\/em>
\nNow like two floods o’return and drown.<\/em><\/p>\n

Thus let your Streams o’reflow your Springs,<\/em>
\nTill Eyes and Tears be the same things:<\/em>
\nAnd each the other’s difference bears;<\/em>
